HelloThis is Cheshire West and Chester Council’s newsdesk bringing you the latest stories from your Council.
The date has now been set for a by-election for the Council’s Ellesmere Port Town ward. Voters in the ward will go to the polls on 20 October.
If you aren’t on the electoral register, or you need to amend your existing details, you must do so by 5pm on Wednesday, 5 October. This is also the deadline for new applications to vote by post or to change existing absent vote details. You can update your details on the canvass form that you will have received recently.

The Council is asking people to support a national programme that will see areas of land becoming dedicated Queen Elizabeth II Fields. The initiative is part of a nationwide programme to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
As a land owner the Council would like to support this project and nominate some fields that it owns. We are asking community groups and individuals to consider if there is a piece of Council-owned land that they think is suitable for the dedication.

The Council has purchased the former Odeon cinema on Upper Northgate Street in Chester. Members of the Council voted unanimously in favour of securing the
iconic Art Deco building - a decision very strongly backed by members of the public.
The Odeon and Little Roodee were selected as the two preferred sites for the city’s cultural flagship theatre after investigations for suitable locations took place. The Council has also promised to give consideration a recent submission of plans for a theatre behind the main library.
Decision day on the location of the multi-million pound state-of-the-art theatre will be 13 October. The long-awaited ruling will fall to all 75 members of Cheshire West and Chester Council, voting on a recommendation from the Executive made eight days earlier.
Whatever decision is taken on the theatre site, the Council’s purchase of the Odeon will ensure it will continue to play an important role in the economic and social life of the city centre.
