Transcript for Newsdesk - November 2011
HelloThis is Cheshire West and Chester Council’s newsdesk bringing you the latest stories from your Council.
Eleven Cheshire West and Chester Council libraries have extended their opening hours meaning you have more opportunity to borrow books and multimedia, use the computers and internet, and access local services.
More than 1.5 million visits were made to libraries in west Cheshire between October 2010 and September 2011, and they look forward to welcoming even more visitors with the increase in hours.
The libraries involved are Barnton, Ellesmere Port, Frodsham, Great Boughton, Helsby, Lache, Neston, Sandiway, Upton, Weaverham and Winsford.

The Council has appointed two new contractors to deliver key services across the borough.
May Gurney will deliver a new recycling and waste collection based on a kerbside-sort system - allowing residents to recycle a very wide range of products - including car batteries, mobile phones, and even used cooking and engine oil from their doorsteps.
Recycling items and kitchen waste will be collected weekly.
Starting in April 2012, the contract will transform the three existing collection arrangements in three phases over the next 12 months.
In addition, Ringway Infrastructure Services Ltd has been appointed as Cheshire West’s new highways maintenance partner, following a pioneering shared contract procurement with Shropshire Council.
The contract will begin in October 2012.
The sister of a teenager who died in a road collision speaks about the family’s loss in a hard-hitting DVD being shown across west Cheshire.
18-year-old Tamsin Cook from Chester recorded her story to be used by the Council’s Safe and Sustainable Travel team as part of their ‘Too young to die’ presentations in secondary schools.
This is just one of a range of road safety presentations, delivered by experts, designed to educate students about risk, either as pedestrians, passengers or newly qualified drivers or riders.

The Eid celebrations, held in Ellesmere Port and supported by Cheshire West and Chester Council, have been a big success for the third year running.
Eid al Adha is known as the Festival of Sacrifice and is celebrated by Muslims to mark the end of Hajj, the holy pilgrimage to Mecca.
The festival featured delicious food, activities for children, information stalls and exhibitions.
Visitors could have henna applied or enjoy reflexology, aromatherapy and shiatsu treatments.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Countess of Chester Hospital Children’s Ward.
